Brenda Lee’s top songs

Three weeks ago Johnny D. suggested we begin to look at various artist and pick our top 3 of their songs. I started with Gene Pitney and listed what his top 5 were, based on chart performance by Billboard. Then I listed my top, or favorite, songs too. No one else responded regarding Gene Pitney. Sorry Gene.

Today let’s try Brenda Lee. This will be hard for me because so many of her songs are among my favorites. Plus they tend to sound the same, which makes it even harder. First, I will give you the top 5 based on Billboard charting.

1. I’m Sorry – 1960
2. I Want to be Wanted – 1960
3. All Alone Am I – 1962
4. Fool #1 – 1961
5. Dum Dum – 1961

My top 3 are:

1. Heart in Hand – 1962
2. Break It To Me Gently – 1962
3. Fool #1 – 1961

I already put “Heart in Hand” under Oldie of the Week, so here is my #2

  1. Ninilani,

Thanks for the post. What other Brenda songs are your favorites? I am already re-thinking my list and thinking “I’m Sorry” should be on my top 3 list. I guess it all depends on what Brenda song I just played on my iPod….lol.

  2. Thax Ter’s for the walk down memorylane…the thrills of puppy love and sorrys of breaking up…where did u find this songs..think I want to put them on a CD…..CDJ

  3. C.J.

It is among my iTunes collection. I am a sucker for all those puppy love, make-out and break-up songs. Brenda had plenty of them in the early 60′s.

    Speaking of “Puppy Love.”

  4. How did Amy Winehouse get into a Brenda Lee conversation? Is someone having wine with dinner tonight?

Yes, Brenda Lee was consistently good at having hit after hit, many sounding the same. They were all good and it is hard to pick just three. I think I will be listening to lots of her when I break out my iPod next time. But the Dodger game comes first so I must get back to it now…..

  5. My top 5 Brenda Lee songs:
    1. Sweet Nothin’s
    2. Break It To Me Gently
    3. Here Comes That Feeling
    4. All Alone Am I
    5. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

  6. Marc’s list is a good one. I think “Sweet Nothin’s” get lost in the shuffle sometimes, being as it was her second hit. Nice to see “Here Comes That Feeling,” one that does not get much attention but is very good. And the classic, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

So far, “Break It To Me Gently” is the overall #1 from the OETR group.
